Warsaw Ladies Compete Indoors
The Warsaw girls track team began competition at a pair of indoor events over the weekend.
Members of the team competed in qualifiers held at Portage on Friday and at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion on Saturday.
The indoor qualifiers are for athletes to qualify to compete in the Indoor State Meet on March 21 at Purdue University. The top 24 in each event qualify.
Emily Bailey placed first in the shot put in the Open Division for Warsaw on Friday at Portage. She had a winning throw of 33 1.75.
the quartet of Nicole Eckert, Kenzie Merchant, Audrey Rich and Tennie Worrell led the Tigers Saturday. The foursome won the 4 X 400 relay event.
Allison Miller placed second in the 3,200 and the 4 X 200 relay team of Rich, Sam Alexander, Mariah Harter and Abbie Curtis also placed second. Alexander was third in the long jump, as was the team of Miller, Hannah Dawson, Charlene Orr and Claire Kehler in the 4 X 800 relay.
Also earning state qualifying spots Saturday were Charlene Orr and Lauren Orr in the 3,200, Curtis in the long jump, Alexia Day in the high jump and 60 hurdles, Harter and Shunterra Davis in the 60 and the team of Kehler, Dawson, Lauren Orr and Mia Beckham in the distance medley relay.
Warsaw athletes will compete in qualifiers on Friday at IWU and on Saturday at both IWU and IPFW.
The Tigers are scheduled to open the outdoor season on March 25 at Penn in a three-way meet with South Bend Washington. The home opener is March 27 versus Kokomo and Bremen.
