Mary L. Engle
Mary L. Engle, 87, Rochester, passed away at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday March 3, 2015, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She was born on July 22, 1927, in Fulton, the daughter of Vern G. and Cleo L. (Showley) Eber. After graduating from high school she attended South Bend Business College. On Feb. 26, 1949, in Fulton, she married Devon W. Engle. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1991.
Mary along with her husband worked on the family farm for many years. When her three sons were in high school, she decided to go to work for six months to save some money. The six months turned into 20 years working for the former Chamberlains and Wenn’s Factory in Akron. She had been an active member of Safe Harbor Church, Rochester, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her sons: Rev. Robert (Christy) Engle, Denver; Phillip (Deb) Engle, Chili; grandchildren: Richard Devon Engle, Indiana; James Devon Engle, North Manchester; Amy Hope (Paul) Oprisek, Wabash; Jennifer Marie (Chris) Rexroad, Mexico; Zachary Robert (Cassidy) Engle, Fort Wayne; Colleen Ann (Chet) Baines, Peru; great-grandchildren: Caleb Rexroad, Carson Rexroad, Jason Oprisek, Caden Engle, Clare Baines, Chloe Baines and Parker Engle; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son: Charles Engle; grandson: Robert Scott Engle; and sister: Pauline DePoy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday March 6, at Safe Harbor Church, 1944 Sweetgum Road, Rochester, with Rev. Daniel Davidson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the church. Burial will follow services at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester.
