Warsaw Education Foundation Awards Red Apple Grants
The Warsaw Education Foundation (WEF) recently awarded over $6,500 in Red Apple Grant funds to seven Warsaw Community Schools’ teachers. Their students will benefit from technology in the classroom, programs to improve math and literacy skills, science exploration and music performance opportunities.
Red Apple Grants are awarded to teachers for classroom materials as well as school-wide projects that advance enrichment opportunities, support innovative and inventive teaching, and promote academic exploration.
Red Apple Grants awarded are:
Literacy
- Karen Sproul, Leesburg Elementary, Look What I Can Do! – $1,267.87
- Courtney Thrasher, Washington STEM Academy, What’s Learned in Play is There to Stay! – $457.00
- Wendy Kovach, Gateway Education Center, Hearing Literature to See it: Audiobooks and eBooks for Non-traditional Students – $1,413.03
Science
- Joshua Wall, Washington STEM Academy, Coral Reef Sustainability Project – $704.99
Music Education
- Jamie Varvel, Harrison Elementary School, X-ploring with Xylophones – $1,434.75
Technology
- Brock Rhodes & Michelle Little, Claypool Elementary, iPad Minis Extend Learning to Make a BIG Impact on Student Growth – $1,404.00. This grant was matched dollar for dollar by Louis Dreyfus Commodities to increase the number of iPad Minis purchased from six to 12.

The Foundation’s signature fundraiser, the Community Quiz Bowl, is still accepting registrations for the event to be held on Tuesday, March 17th, 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Warsaw Community High School Tiger Den. The funds raised at the Quiz Bowl will be used to support future Red Apple Grants similar to those listed above.
