Sentences Handed Down In Circuit Court
A handful of individuals arrested on drug charges were sentenced this morning by Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed. In all instances the sentences were based on plea agreements.
Logan D. Keen, 19, 2404 Westwood Road, Winona Lake, was sentenced to one year for possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony and one year for possession of a synthetic drug or synthetic drug look-a-like substance, a class A misdemeanor. Both sentences will run concurrent. He will serve 120 days of his sentence in the Kosciusko County Jail Work Release Program, if accepted with the remaining time suspended to be served on probation. His sentence is to also be served consecutive with charges in Marshall County. HIs driver’s license was suspended for one-year.
Michaela L. Harris, 23, 5807 S. Maple Grove Lane, Warsaw, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in the Kosciusko County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, a class D felony, with charges of dealing in methamphetamine and possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance dismissed. Her sentence was suspended and will be served on probation. She was ordered to pay $1,486.05 to the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab for environmental clean up. Her charges were pleaded down from a B felony.
Laura M. Hughes, 22, Warsaw, received a 10 year sentence to the Indiana Department of Corrections on a charge of dealing in a narcotic drug, a level 2 felony, and 1 1/2 years for theft, a level 6 felony, from her arrest in 2014. Hughes was a CVS Pharmacy Assistant and allegedly stole between 8,000 and 9,000 hydrocodone pills, consuming half and selling the other half. She will serve two years at the Kosciusko County Jail with the balance of eight years being served on probation. Both sentences will run concurrent. A count of possession of a narcotic drug was dismissed. She is to report to the county jail at 9 a.m. Monday, March 16, to serve her sentence.
Richard R. Reynolds, 27, 8584 S. Packerton Road, Claypool received two years each in the county jail on charges of possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of a precursor by a methamphetamine offender. These sentences will be served consecutively. A third charge of possession of methamphetamine was dismissed. An additional eight months was added to his sentence for violation of probation, which will be served at the completion of the first charges.
Eric Smoroske, 47, 1622 E. Clark Street, Warsaw, was given 10 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections on a charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a class B felony. A charge of possession of methamphetamine was dismissed. Reed stated he had no alternative but to give him 10 years as previous incarceration with therapy and all other counseling offered by the DOC was unsuccessful. This sentence is to run consecutive with other charges out of Wabash County.
Buddy A. Greer, 37, 602 W. Section Street, Milford, was given a four year sentence in the DOC for possession of methamphetamine, a class C felony. The entire sentence was suspended, to be served on probation. A second charge, dealing in methamphetamine was dismissed. Dan Hampton, prosecutor, noted the plea agreement was drafted in a manor of his acceptance of his responsibility and assistance with law enforcement agencies.
