Trojans Hold Off Norsemen
BOURBON – What was shaping up like a typical grind-it-out win for Triton Tuesday night turned into a mini shoot-out. Triton and Northfield traded punches, but the Trojans had just a little more spunk in its 52-47 boys basketball win at the Trojan Trench.
Both teams combined to score just 60 points through three quarters, with Triton holding a slim 32-38 advantage heading into the fourth. Both teams found the scoring touch in the fourth, with the Trojans holding a 20-19 advantage in the final eight minutes to move to 14-7 on the season.
Senior Joey Corder was a big reason for Triton’s success against the Norse. Corder hit 11-17 free throw attempts to finish with 21 points while adding nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block. Jordan Anderson added 12 points and six boards for the Trojans.
As a unit, Triton hit 17-25 free throws while Northfield hit 12-15.
The Norse (8-14) kept it close by nailing seven threes, four from Noah Shear, who ended with 12 points. Jarred Short made three bombs and had 11 points.
The JV game went to Northfield, 44-37, led by Matt Coe’s 13 points and eight rebounds. Triton was led by Dalton Bailey and Zac Pitney’s combined 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Triton has one game left on the regular season calendar, a road game Friday at Knox. The game, which is the final Northern State Conference night as the conference is disbanding after the season, is important for Triton. The Trojans sit at 5-1 in the conference and Knox (2-18, 1-5) is the final step for at least a share of the final NSC crown.
John Glenn is also 5-1 in the NSC and hosts New Prairie (11-8, 4-2 NSC) Friday night.
