Gene A. Pletcher
Gene A. Pletcher, 87, of South Bend, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1927, in Argos, to the late Nathan and Cleo (Beam) Pletcher.
On Sept. 6, 1945 in Plymouth, he was united in marriage to Leona (Conley) Pletcher.
Gene graduated from Argos High School in 1945. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands. Gene worked for Bendix Aerospace, now known as Allied Signal, for 47 years.
Gene attended the LaPaz Community Church of God. He taught Sunday school and was very active in church functions including membership in the Church Leadership Team and the Missionary Society.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 69 1/2 years, Leona; three daughters, Debra (David) Rodgers of Valparaiso, Diena (Roy) Kaser of Earlville, Ill., and Dawn (Larry) Maxson of Bremen; four sons, Dana (Cheryl) Pletcher of Mundelein, Ill., Dirk (Kay) Pletcher of Walkerton, Curt (Jean) Pletcher of Teegarden, and Rodney (Melody) Pletcher of Walkerton. Gene is survived by 25 grandchildren and 31-great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Willard (Ruth) Pletcher of Argo.
Pletcher was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Naomi Crow and Goldie Barlow and five brothers, Russell Pletcher, Ralph Pletcher, Clarence Pletcher, Charlie Pletcher and Paul Pletcher.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Services will be held at the chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, officiated by the Revs. Sam McClimans and Dean Snyder. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015. Graveside services and burial will follow services at Southlawn Cemetery.
