A number of residents were present during Tuesday evening’s Warsaw Common Council meeting to express concerns over the chemical spill into Winona Lake following a fire at Warsaw Chemical.

At least three residents spoke up expressing clean-up concerns and questioning what is being done to prevent it from happening again. Citizens were informed the situation is still being monitored and there was a meeting with Nate Bosch, director of Lakes and Streams, regarding the situation.

Mayor Joe Thallemer noted the city is monitoring the situation as much as it can and the matter will eventually be taken over by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

During other business:

• Council members reviewed the redevelopment commission report for 2014. The report provided information on commission members and officers; employees; expenditures and funds on hand at the end of 2014.
• Reviewed the fund report for January.
• Approved Comcast Franchise Fees for the fourth quarter of 2014, totaling $13,486.58.
• Approved the cancellation of outstanding checks written to David Fruit and Adam Sanford. The checks have been outstanding for two years.
