Mentone House Fire A Total Loss
At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, Mentone Fire Department was called to respond to a house fire located at CR 6966S 1000W.
According to Mentone Fire Chief Mike Yazel, upon arrival flames were seen bursting from the doors and and windows of the residence. Burket Fire Department was called for a full-assist with Akron Fire Department called for manpower and a tanker.
According to Yazel, the home was occupied by two adults and two young children. All residents exited the building safely however two dogs perished in the blaze. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the family.
According to Yazel, firefighters left the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m. The fire was believed to have begun in the area of a wood stove though Yazel noted an official cause has yet to be determined. The home is a total loss and damages are estimated to total at least $100,000.
