Cromwell, Milford Residents In Elkhart County Pile-Ups
A Cromwell man and woman and a Milford woman were involved in separate accidents involving a total of 16 vehicles. The local residents were not injured.
Rigoberto Mendoza Rangel, 35, and Edith Utter, 57, both of Cromwell were involved in a 12-vehicle accident, including a semi, at 11:52 a.m. Saturday on US 6 west of CR 43.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reports Ramiro Hernandez, 19, Elkhart, was eastbound on US 6 and due to whiteout conditions crossed the center line and struck Rangel’s westbound vehicle.Both vehicles came to a stop in the roadway.
The drivers of the remaining vehicles, including Utter’s, began colliding as they approached the accident scene. Two-persons were injured: Anel Aza, 30, Ligonier, who complained of hip pain and Rodney D. Dunn, 36, Ligonier, who complained of facial pain. Both were transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital where they were treated and released.
Other drivers involved included: Feras Abbas, 38, Justice, Ill.; Robert Kistler, 73, Granger; Jarret Devlin, 22, Angola; Gustavo Corral Candia, 28, Goshen; Carrie Lindsey Carpenter, 22, Everett, Wash.; Peggy J. Conrad, 63, Ligonier; and Mark Leamon, 62, Ligonier.
SR 19 Accident
Carol Waggonor, 34, Milford, was not injured in a four-vehicle accident on SR 19, north of SR 119, at 12:48 p.m. Saturday, south of Wakarusa.
Glen Hochstetler, 52, Nappanee, was stopped in the southbound lane due to whiteout conditions when Waggonor’s southbound vehicle struck the back of Hochstetler’s vehicle. Spencer Wilson, 19, Nappanee, was able to stop his vehicle before hitting the Waggoner vehicle. However Wilson’s vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Kyle Stickley, 39, Nappanee, pushing Wilson’s vehicle into the back of the Waggonor vehicle.
Samatha Sanders, 20, Nappanee, a passenger in Wilson’s vehicle complained of pain to the abdomen, she is 26 weeks pregnant and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
