Squires Stop Wildcats
SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko boys basketball team dropped a 58-47 final to Manchester Saturday afternoon.
The Squires improved to 14-6 overall with the Three Rivers Conference win. Manchester also clinches at least a share of the TRC championship with a final league mark of 6-1.
Both Tippecanoe Valley and Southwood are 5-1 in TRC play. The Vikings were scheduled to host Northfield in their final league game today, while Southwood will host Northfield on Feb. 20 to finish conference play. Valley won the TRC title last year at 7-0 with Manchester second at 6-1.
Manchester led 14-12 after the opening period and 31-22 at halftime over the host Wildcats.
Tanner Gaff led Whitko with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Nate Walpole had 14 points for Whitko in the loss. River West had six points and six assists and Devon Adkins four points and Cole Kessie three points.
Whitko is now 6-14 overall and finishes at 1-6 in TRC action.
Whitko plays at Churubusco Feb. 21. Manchester hosts Columbia City on Friday.
