By MILFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY STAFF
Milford library events this week:
LEGO Crew
Drop by from 10:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 14 and create with LEGO building blocks. We provide the blocks, you provide the creativity and imagination. Children ages five and up, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to join the fun.
After School is Cool
It’s movie time at the next After School is Cool meeting. At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, meet up for a movie about an orphan boy brought up by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors who tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator. The movie, based on the novel “Here Be Monsters” by Alan Snow, lasts 96 minutes. We provide the popcorn and the refreshments, and you can bring your friends. Each After School is Cool meeting you attend earns you 10 points. When you have 40 points, you can choose a paperback book to add to your home library.
Winter Preschool Storytime
We’re talking about ice at the next winter storytime for preschoolers. You can choose between three sessions: 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, or 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Staff will read “Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice” by Steve Metzger and “Bunnies on Ice” by Johanna Wright. After listening to stories we will get creative and paint with ice using a simple mixture of water and food coloring. Make sure your children wear clothing they can get messy in. After we paint, we’ll enjoy a refreshing ice pop. It’s not too late to register your children ages three to six.
Knitting Club
In the teen area of the library, knitting club meets from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. Bring a project and get help from experienced knitters. Even if you’ve never picked up a pair of knitting needles before, you’ll find plenty of help to get you started. Come learn how to make a new project and don’t forget to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate for our Hot Chocolate Fridays!
Friends of the Library
Do you have lots of books sitting around, cluttering your house? Why not donate them to the library for others to buy and read! The Friends of the Library welcomes all your donations of gently-used books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and sheet music. Feel free to go through our collection and purchase a few things as well. All proceeds go back to the library. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 in the meeting room. The friends are also selling cloth book bags for $12. Come and purchase a bag at the circulation desk to support your local library.
Adult Craft Night
The Adult Craft night for Monday, Feb. 9 has been postponed. The craft night will now be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Kathy Boyts will help you make a mixed-media photo frame. If you have some items you would like to use on your frame, like old costume jewelry or pieces of colored glass, bring them to craft night. Cost is $15. Register at the Adult Circulation Desk by Friday, March 6 to get a spot for the craft night. Money due when you sign up and tell your friends. Craft nights are very informal and relaxing.
