Stutzman, Walorski Issue Statements On Keystone XL Approval Act
Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski issued the following statement after the House passed The Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act by a vote of 270-152:
“Both the House and the Senate overwhelmingly supported a measure to put more Americans back to work and move our country towards energy independence. I hope the president seizes this opportunity to create thousands of jobs for American workers and strengthen our local economies.”
Meanwhile, Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement on the result: “Today, I was once again proud to support bipartisan legislation to approve and begin building the Keystone XL Pipeline. The construction of this pipeline has overwhelming support from the American people and now the backing of both the House and the Senate. Congress understands that this project will bring tens of thousands of jobs to the workforce and potentially $2 billion of revenue to our economy. Stalling on common sense projects that will benefit our country only fosters distrust among our public officials. The construction of this pipeline is long past due. Now is the time for President Obama to put politics aside, listen to the American people, and sign this bill into law.”
The act would authorize the construction of 875 miles of 36-inch pipe with the capacity to transport 830,000 barrels per day to transport oil sands crude from Canada and shale oil produced in North Dakota and Montana to a market hub in Nebraska for further delivery to Gulf Coast refineries. The bill passed the Senate last week by a vote of 62-36 and now heads to the president’s desk.
