Vernon D. Nissley
Vernon D. Nissley, age 75, of Goshen, died at 5:06 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 at Elkhart General Hospital , where he had been admitted Saturday after a brief illness. Vernon was born July 6, 1939 in Nappanee to Daniel and Sue (Schmucker) Nissley.
He married Lois Miller Aug. 23, 1958. She preceded in death Dec. 5, 2007. Mr. Nissley served as a minister and missionary. In 1969 he and his wife moved to Donna, Texas to do mission work in Mexico. He was founder and operator of Gospel Missions Beyond the Border. Mr. Nissley retired in May, 2014 and returned to Nappanee.
Surviving are daughters, Charla Oveido, Conway, S.C., Loreen (Stephen) Hostetler, Millersburg, Ohio; sons, Laural (Geraldine) Nissley, Goshen, Vernon Nissley, Elkhart, Cecil Nissley, Washington, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Nissley, La Jara, Colo., Miriam (Cleo) Orendorf, Sue Ellen Nissley, both of Nappanee; brothers, Homer (Betty) Nissley, South Bend, Lloyd (Gladys) Nissley, Silver Lake, Ira (Reinhilde) Nissley, Nappanee, Daniel Jr. (Miriam) Nissley, Lebanon, Pa; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Nissley, Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Yoder and a brother, Melvin Nissley. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at Bethel Conservative Church, Nappanee, where services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Gospel Missions Beyond the Border. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
