WHS DECA Raising Funds For State Competition
Recently, the Wawasee High School DECA chapter competed in the district two local competition in Elkhart with the team doing very well. Fifteen of its 19 members walked away eligible to compete at the state competition in March.
With the competition set to occur in Indianapolis, the WHS DECA chapter is hoping to raise enough funds to ensure all 15 members who qualified can attend the competition. The chapter’s advisor Taylor Burkhart noted each student must raise $176.
To achieve this goal, DECA members are selling Otis Spunkmeyer chocolate chip cookies. Members are taking leadership roles in regards to the fundraiser and are preparing and selling the cookies before school and between classes. So far the chapter has experienced success with this fundraiser, with students being very responsive. Cookies are sold by DECA members for $1.
This fundraiser further enforces DECA’s goal of teaching students about business and marketing. State will also further students’ understanding of business and marketing. DECA chapter members during a recent Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce meeting were quick to note how attending past state competitions has further enriched their experiences, in some cases opening doors for after graduation.
Community members and organizations are also welcomed to provided financial assistance to support DECA members’ trip to state.
