Betty J. Anderson
Betty J. Anderson, 92, formerly of South Whitley, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Peabody Home in North Manchester where she became a resident Dec. 7, 2013.
She was born July 17, 1922 in Sturgis, Mich., a daughter of Sylvan R. and Ethel Mae (Edgett) Bentz. At the age of 12, her family moved to Cleveland Township, Whitley County. She graduated from South Whitley High School. On Jan. 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to James R. Anderson. They made their home in Chicago while Jim served in the Army, then returning to South Whitley. Mr. Anderson died June 12, 2001.
Betty was employed at Magnavox a short time. Jim and Betty owned and operated Arrow Electronics for 40 years and she served as clerk 12 years for Jim as Cleveland Township Trustee. Her church membership was with South Whitley United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include two sons: Steven J. (Carolyn) Anderson, Yorba Linda, Calif.; Thomas R. (Alice) Anderson, North Manchester; two grandsons: Matthew Anderson and Jordan James Anderson; a granddaughter: Katie Anderson; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother: Dean Bentz; and a sister: Anita Aburn.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home.
