Kerr Arrested After Testing Positive For Opiates Following Child Birth
Whitney Ester Kerr, 28, 10491 S. Pearson Blvd., Silver Lake, has been arrested for neglect of a dependent following the birth of an unresponsive child on Jan. 21.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, Kerr’s child, a boy, was born unresponsive after 32 weeks of pregnancy. Following the birth of her son Kerr was given a drug test in which she tested positive for opiates and THC.
Kerr admitted she was a heroin user and had used as recently as one week prior. She also admitted to recently taking a Percocet, a schedule II narcotic, for which she did not have a prescription.
The infant was transported to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital where doctors advised that Kerr’s drug uses a possible factor for the child’s condition after detecting possible withdrawal symptoms by the baby.
Kerr was arrested on Monday, Feb. 2. She is being held at the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety bond.
