Kosciusko County Works To Clear Snow
With up to 17.2 inches falling in areas of the county, it is no wonder that Kosciusko is currently under a travel “watch”. According to the National Weather Service in Syracuse, 17.2 inches of snow fell 7 miles east/southeast of Leesburg, 14 inches fell in Warsaw and 11.2 inches fell in Winona Lake. The NWS noted that the highest totals were seen in LaPorte, where more than 20 inches of snow fell from Sunday evening to this morning.
Though ample snow fell, according to Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock, all county roads are currently open. Snow plows hit the roads at 4 a.m. and Rock expects they will work through the day to clear county roads.
“All county roads are open but they are still, and will continue to be, snow covered, slick and hazardous,” explained Rock. “While we are having a lot of “slide-offs” we have not had any injuries. Please advise drivers to keep their travel at a minimum to allow the snowplow drivers to do their job and be careful if they must travel.”
Though the county is currently under the orange travel “watch”, Rock noted that he expects to drop back to the yellow “advisory” later this afternoon.
Though the NWS does note that the chance of further snowfall today is low, an additional 1-3 inches is expected this week. The NWS states that accumulating snow is expected Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Light snow accumulations are expected.
