Dolores Butcher
Dolores Butcher, 83, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 3:25 p.m. Jan. 31, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Peru.
Born on May 6, 1931, Dolores Lucille was the cherished daughter of Verlynne and Dorothy Leedy Study. Growing up as oldest, Dolores shared her childhood with a sister Peggy Jo. In 1949 she graduated with her class from Peru High School. Remaining close with her classmates she attended their 64th reunion in the fall of 2013.
On May 28, 1949, in Peru, Fredrick L. Butcher married the love of his life, Dolores L. Study Butcher. Together they enjoyed over 58 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two wonderful daughters, Pam and Kathy. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A true and loving farmer’s wife, Dolores was actively involved with the family farming operation. With a strong work ethic she milked the cows and drove the tractors, overseeing a fine herd of over 75 holsteins. With great pride their farm earned the distinction of “Grade A” designation. Each spring she led her family with the planting, maintenance and harvest of a large truck patch garden. The bountiful harvest was canned and frozen for winter use.
An extraordinary cook and baker, Dolores was at home from her kitchen command post, always fulfilling her families requests. Pies were her forte’, among her specialties were cream, pineapple, pecan and chocolate. Grandma’s molasses and peanut butter cookies fresh from the oven were second to none. Peanut butter and chocolate fudge were also of high demand. An avid reader in recent years, romance and novels were her favorites.
Most recently Dolores worked at Walmart, retiring after a 10 year stint. Over the years she also worked at Marshall Electric, Essex Wire of Logansport and Cyclone Cedar. She attended the 1st Baptist Church of Rochester and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Peru.
