Fickel Hits Winner In Grace Victory
GOSHEN – The Grace College women’s basketball team turned the tables on Goshen College Saturday.
The Lancers avenged a two-point home loss by edging past the host Maple Leafs 72-70 in Crossroads League play.
Goshen had defeated Grace 59-57 in Winona Lake back on Dec. 6.
Senior JoEllen Fickel was the hero for the Lancers in Saturday’s win. Her bucket with 8.3 seconds to play proved to be the game winner for coach Scott Blum’s squad.
The Lancers used a big edge from the free throw line to get the win. Grace hit 23-29 from the line, while Goshen was just 10-12.
Allison Kauffman continued her stellar play with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the winners.
Kelsie Peterson canned 14 points and Fickel had eight for the Lancers.
Liz Tecca led Goshen with 16 points. Sophie Sears scored 13 and Keshia Ward and Tyra Carver each had 12 for the hosts.
Grace improves to 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference. Goshen drops to 16-8 overall and 7-5 in league play.
