Squires Rally To Top Vikings
NORTH MANCHESTER – The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team saw a big second-half lead evaporate Friday night versus Manchester.
In the process, the Vikings also saw their unbeaten mark in the Three Rivers Conference vanish too.
The host Squires erased a 16-point deficit in the final half to post a 56-51 win in a key TRC contest.
Valley, which held a 32-19 halftime lead, went up 33-19 to open the final half.
Manchester, which had lost 11 in a row to the Vikings, rallied within 40-35 at the end of the third quarter.
The Squires outscored the Vikings 21-11 in the final period. Chase Fierstos scored 12 huge points in the final frame to lead the hosts to the win.
Alex Thacker canned 23 points to lead the way for Valley. Neil Clampitt had 12 points for the Vikings.
Valley had 17 turnovers in the loss.
Fierstos finished with 23 points for the Squires. Chainey Zolman, who played at Valley the last three years, had 12 points for Manchester.
Valley drops to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the TRC. Manchester improves to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Squires are tied for the league lead at 4-1 with Southwood.
Manchester won the junior varsity game 52-27.
Valley hosts Maconaquah Tuesday night. Manchester hosts Tri-Central Saturday afternoon.
