A. Fern Porter
A. Fern Porter, 86 of North Webster, formerly of Huntington, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at her residence.
Fern had worked for Square D in Huntington for many years. She loved camping and had camped at various locations with her husband over the years. They spent their summers at their cottage on the Barbee Lake chain and eventually moved there permanently in the late 90’s. She loved spending time with her family, especially caring for the grandkids.
Fern was born on Sept. 18, 1928, in Huntington, a daughter of Walter and Ruth (Razer) Hunt.
She was united in marriage to Harry Porter Jr. on Feb. 6, 1948, in Huntington. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1999.
She is survived by a daughter: Debra (Lon) Knecht, Huntington; two grandsons: Brandon (Heather) Knecht, Roanoke; Scott Spencer, Goshen; a granddaughter: Alicia Knecht, Winter Park, Fla.; two great-grandchildren: Harper Knecht and Zachary Spencer; a brother: Al (Edna) Hunt, Huntington; a brother-in-law: Chuck Porter, North Webster; and a sister-in-law: Margaret Shilling, Bippus.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Mae Wilkening.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Funeral Home. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Owen Family Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Interment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion.
