Neva Miller Mason
Neva Miller Mason, 87, of Hubbard Hills Estate Assisted Living Community, Elkhart (past 10 years) and formerly of Bourbon, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.
Mason was born July 17, 192,7 to Wendell H. Miller and Iloe (Brown) Miller at home in Bourbon Township, Bourbon. She has been a lifelong resident, a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1945 and attended Manchester College for two years.
Mason was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Financial Secretary. She was also a member of Bourbon Homemaker’s Club and she enjoyed photography.
She and her late husband Lewis were significant in the community as the owners of the First State Bank where they were part of many people’s lives. She was most notable for her personality. She was a friendly face who always greeted everyone at the bank with a smile and always asking how you and your family were doing. She had been involved at the bank from 1945 until 2002 when retirement was the next step of her life. She will be greatly missed by all.
Mason married Lewis Mason on Oct. 21, 1952; he died March 12, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and David Mason Warner of West Lafayette and their two sons: John and Daniel; two sons and daughter-in-laws: Ralph Lewis and Louise Mason of Bourbon and their children: Victoria (Mrs. Brian) Nugent, Brittany and Lewis James; Brad and Angela Mason of Bourbon and their daughters: Kendall, Kylie, Kaelyn and Kolbie.
Proceeding in death was her parents and husband, Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, to share memories in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home 115 S. Main St. Bourbon, IN 46504.
A celebration of Neva’s life will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Shiloh Fellowship (formerly Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren) 5699 10th Road Bourbon.
Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
