Triton Attends DECA Competition For First Time
By DONNA BURROUGHS, EdS

New business teacher at Triton Junior-Senior High School, Tracie Vermillion, has introduced Triton business students to the world of DECA competition. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
The Triton students learned a lot of valuable business practices as they presented their role plays to the judges in this their first competition. We look forward to sharing our experiences with other DECA members and we now have a better idea how to prepare for future competitions. Our goal is for some students to make it to the state competition next year.
Six members of DECA competed in the District 2 competition in Elkhart at Concord Mall on Friday, Jan. 16. Students were given role plays in which they had 10-20 minutes to prepare their responses to present to the judges. Students who score in the top three of the competition in their respective categories move on to the state competition in Indianapolis.
DECA members who competed this year are Lee Mullet, Shelby Rahe, Cody Anderson, Lucas Newman, Jesse Corder and Izzy Cretcher.
