Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
8:51 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, North SR 19, north of West CR 1050N, Nappanee. Driver: Joshua J. Lardino, 29, West Maple Grove Road, Huntington. Lardino was unable to avoid hitting one of several horses in the roadway. The horse which was struck took off after the accident. The owner, Lavern Yoder, was located and exchanged information with the driver. Damage up to $5,000.
8:03 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, North CR 850E, north of North Hoss Hill Road, North Webster. Driver: Devin R. Anderson-Beer, 19, North Third Trail, North Webster. Anderson-Beer attempted to avoid a deer and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway, hitting two trees. He had leg and head pain but refused EMS. Damage up to $5,000.
5:27 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, South CR 450W, north of West CR 600S, Warsaw. Driver: Matthew C. Swafford, 23, South CR 450W, Claypool. Hit deer. Damage up to $5,000.
11:46 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, South CR 400W, north of West CR 150S, Warsaw. Casey M. Dunn, 18, Oakwood Drive, Warsaw. Dunn’s vehicle went off the west side of the road, hitting a mailbox. Dunn attempted to correct the vehicle and get back on the roadway, over-correcting, causing the vehicle to go off the road, through a field. The mailbox is owned by Ardith J. Smythe. Damage up to $1,000.
7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, South County Farm Road and West CR 300S, Warsaw. Driver: Danielle C. Byers, 28, West Main Street, North Manchester. Hit deer. Damage up to $5,000.
6:58 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, North Seventh Street, Pierceton. Driver: William K. Shipman, 63, East Center Street, Warsaw. Shipman complained of pain to the chest. Shipman was traveling east on Market Street when he experienced a diabetic episode, loosing consciousness. His vehicle continued straight, hitting the corner of a home owned by Della J. Pollock. The vehicle continued through the yard hitting some fence post, stopping after hitting a tree. Shipman was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Kosciusko Community Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Damage up to $25,000.
4:18 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, West Old Road 30, Warsaw. Driver: Fred D. Wolford, 89, East Old Road 30, Warsaw. Wolford suffered minor bleeding to the head. Wolford’s dog jumped on his lap, distracting him. When he went to move the dog to the passenger’s seat, he took his hands off the steering wheel and his eyes off the road. The vehicle came into contact with a utility pole, causing no structural damage. Wolford suffered minor bleeding to the head and appeared disoriented. He was taken to KCH. Damage up to $10,000.
4:17 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, West Old Road 30, Fred D. Wolford, 89, East Old Road 30, Warsaw. Police were called to the entrance to Westhaven Estates for an accident and once the report was completed, they found the driver was possibly suffering from a medical issue. Officers felt the vehicle appeared to have more damage than the accident reported and searched the mobile home park for potential vehicles which could have been damaged. A parked jeep, registered to Alison M. Ousley, Wooster Road, Winona Lake, was found to have damage consistent with what police were looking for sitting in front of a residence a few trailers down from Wolford’s residence. Damage up to $5,000.
10:38 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, South SR 15, south of West CR 700S, Claypool Driver; Ryan D. Hughes, 40, North Meridian Road, Peru. Hughes was following a vehicle which struck a deer. He too struck the deer. The initial driver continued from the area and did not stop. Damage up to $2,500.
9:12 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, South Packerton Road, north of East CR 900S, Claypool Driver; Daniel L. Kochenour, 31, West CR 700N, Roann. Kochenour lost control of his vehicle, going off the road, sliding sideways, hitting a cement post. Kochenour, complained of pain to the head and leg and his passenger, William N. Maurer, 35, North SR 12, Urbana, complained of pain to the elbow/lower arm. Both refused medical attention and sought treatment on their own. Damage up to $5,000.
8:07 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, South SR 25, south of South CR 600W, Burket. Driver: Adam W. Dille, 28, East Center Street, Warsaw. Dille failed to negotiate a curve, loosing control of his vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway, down an embankment and hitting the other side of the ditch. Damage up to $5,000.
Milford
Officers with the Milford Police Department investigated the following accident:
8:43 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, SR 15, north of Turkey Creek Drive, Milford. Driver: Ann D. Halfacre, 58, Frontage Road, Warsaw. Halfacre was northbound, lost control of her vehicle due to icy roads. Her vehicle spun around, slid across the road, hitting a guard rail. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, East CR 250N, north of North CR 100E, Warsaw. Drivers: Cody J. Patterson, 28, North Maple Way, Leesburg, and Susanna G. Gibson, 36, North Harper Road, Leesburg. Patterson was southbound on CR 100E, behind another vehicle, which slowed to make a right turn onto CR 250N. Patterson started to pass that vehicle when he saw the Gibson vehicle turning off CR 250N to head southbound. Patterson’s vehicle collided with the left rear of Gibson’s vehicle. Gibson stated she was stopped and when the other vehicle started to turn she started her turn onto CR 100E, not seeing Patterson’s vehicle, until the vehicles collided. Damage up to $25,000.
4:01 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, East Center Street and North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Jennifer D. Hogenson, 19, West CR 250S, Warsaw, and Harle I. Cordill, 65, Nye Street, Warsaw. Hogenson began to merge into the left turn lane, but misjudged the space hitting the driver’s side rear of Cordill’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
12:29 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, West Lake Street, Warsaw. Driver: Joshua M. Folk, 28, West Cook Road, Fort Wayne. The trailer on Folk’s vehicle struck the utility light in the canopy over the fuel pumps at Wilby’s, breaking a light cover and light bulb. Damage up to $2,500.
