Betty L. Mogensen
Betty L. Mogensen, 83, formerly of Columbia City and Pierceton, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, in Salt Springs, Fla.
She was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Lagrange, to Harold and Goldie Mae (Anspaugh) Waldeck. As a young girl, her family moved to a farm in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, later into Columbia City and then Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School. On April 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to K. Peter Mogensen. They made their home in Columbia City until 1959 when they moved to Richland Township. In 1983 they moved to rural Pierceton. Mr. Mogensen died Oct. 24, 2006. Betty moved to Florida in 2008.
She was employed at Schultz Bros. as a bookkeeper, an operator for United Telephone, bookkeeper for REMC and assisted her husband with Mogensen Excavating. Her memberships included Grace Lutheran Church and formerly American Legion Post #98 Auxiliary.
She is survived by three children: Terry (Lois) Mogensen, Columbia City; Joan (David) Sturgill, Pierceton; Dean (Zoe) Mogensen, Kissimmee, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Dane Waldeck, Larwill.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Kathy Mogensen.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.
