Southwood Keeps Whitko At Distance
WABASH – A horrific start to the boys basketball game Friday night by Whitko gave Southwood a definitive advantage in a 71-62 win for the host Knights.
Southwood opened with a 25-9 lead after one quarter of play, to which Whitko could not fully make up the difference. The Wildcats would pull within five points heading into the fourth quarter, trailing 49-44. But the Knights would rally to score 22 points in the final quarter for the Three Rivers Conference victory.
Nate Walpole had a huge game for Whitko, scoring 30 points and adding five assists. Cole Kessie chipped in 12 points and five boards and River West had nine points and six rebounds.
Whitko falls to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the TRC while Southwood jumps to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Whitko returns to the court Tuesday for a home game against Adams Central while Southwood will jump right back into TRC play with a crosstown rivalry game against Wabash.
