Silver Lake Town Council Approves Miner As President For Another Year
Wednesday evening’s Silver Lake Town Council meeting saw the board unanimously approve the motion to retain President Chad Miner as the council president for 2015. Miner served as president for the 2014 year.
The three board members also signed to officially agree to a sewer planning grant for the town worth $40,000. The board decided to hold off on purchasing a new update for the software used in the town offices. The new software has a listed cost of $6,750, and since there is no pressing need to update in the near future, it was decided to wait six months and then come back to the discussion.
The board accepted Morris Jones as the town’s fire chief. Jones held the position previously, so there wasn’t much discussion on the matter.
Discussion then turned to the computer server in the town offices, and whether or not to buy a new one outright or lease one for three years at a time. To purchase one new the town would have to pay $7,241, while leasing one for 36 months would carry a payment rate of $275 per month. Phil Shalley voted to lease one, while Owens voted to buy one. Miner, left with the task of breaking the tie, mulled over the data before him briefly before siding with Owens on purchasing a new server.
The only public comment came from a citizen who stated how pleased he was with how the roads had been handled so far this winter. There were no updates from the police or street departments. The fire department provided graphs with figures on the number of runs they conducted in 2014, as well as the cause for the runs.
The claim docket totaling $151,611.20 was approved unanimously, and the next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Silver Lake town hall.
