Barons Fly Past Warriors
WATERLOO – DeKalb continued its excellent start to the boys basketball season, crushing Wawasee 65-42 Tuesday night on its home court.
The Barons, now 9-2 this season, had Hunter Cone drill six three-pointers to pace his team with 20 points. Cole Hartman was also a force, scoring 16 points, while Carson Forrest and Will Chrisman each finished with nine points.
DeKalb was electric from the start as Cone and Chrisman hit four combined threes in the first quarter to help the Barons to a 23-11 advantage. DeKalb would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, outscoring Wawasee in every quarter but the fourth.
The Warriors (5-4 overall) had nine players make the score sheet, but had Aaron Voirol top the list with only seven points. Gage Reinhard, Jake Hutchinson, Jayce Boatwright and Alex Clark all finished with six points apiece.
The DeKalb JV opened the night with a 42-34 victory over Wawasee. Statistics from the JV game were not provided.
Both teams will next head into its respective conference games. DeKalb will visit New Haven (3-7) Saturday in Northeast Hoosier Conference play and Wawasee will head to red hot NorthWood (8-1) Friday night in its second Northern Lakes Conference game. The Panthers are coming in fresh off a Winning Edge Tournament title last weekend at Tippecanoe Valley.
