TVSB Ready For 2015
The 2014 year was another solid one for the Tippecanoe Valley School Board. Several teachers and students within the school corporation were recognized for achievement both at the state and national level, including seven teachers within the corporation receiving KEYS grants.
The board oversaw many important hirings in 2014, including the appointment of new TV Middle School Principal Scott Backus. The board also approved the hiring of Dr. Michael Bendicsen as the new Principal of TV High School.
In December, the board agreed to allow TVHS to implement Archery and Hunter Education programs. A project to implement new light fixtures also saved the district money just within a year of instillation.
Though 2014 was a big year, TVSC Superintendent Brett Boggs hopes that 2015 will usher in even more positive change. There will be a change of personnel within the board though, as longtime members Mark Wise and Rod Eaton served their last month of duty in December. Wise served for more than two decades and Eaton served for over 16 years.
As Boggs explained, “Two new school board members will join the board starting in January 2015. Stan Miller was elected as the Franklin Township representative while Todd Hoffman was elected as the Newcastle Township representative. Both are TVHS graduates. Incumbent Henry Township representative, Bryan Murphy, was re-elected.”
Other projects for the coming year will include the implementation of the 2015 Indiana Secured School Safety Grant. The grant, provided by the Department of Homeland Security, will be used to install global positioning systems on all TVSC buses as well as install traffic barriers to protect the main entrance of each school.
The board also plans to continue its discussions in consideration of a new construction project at Akron Elementary School. There will be community informational meetings on the subject, open to the public, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Akron Elementary, and 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Mentone Elementary. According to Boggs, “Public feedback will be sought during these meetings. Based on public response the School Board will determine how to proceed.”
