Warsaw Cagers To Play Double Dips
WARSAW – Warsaw basketball fans will have a chance to see both Tiger teams in action both Friday and Saturday nights.
Warsaw will play a girls/boys varsity doubleheader on Friday at Triton. The girls varsity contest will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys varsity game to follow.
Coach Doug Ogle’s Warsaw boys team sits at an impressive 7-1 on the season. The Tigers beat South Bend Riley 57-47 and Merrillville 63-60 in double overtime last Saturday to win their own holiday tournament championship. Ogle’s squad has won five in a row since a 60-59 loss at Class 4-A No. 3 Homestead (7-1) back on Dec. 5. The Tigers are ranked No. 13 in Class 4-A in the latest AP poll.
The Warsaw girls’ team sits at 7-6 on the season after going 1-1 in their own TCU Lady Tiger Classic on Tuesday at WCHS. Coach Michelle Harter’s team beat Lowell in the semifinals and then lost to undefeated and Class 3-A No. 2 South Bend St. Joseph 65-40 in the title game.
The Triton boys team is 4-3 on the season. The Trojans, who are ranked No. 13 in Class 1-A, have not played since beating New Prairie 54-36 at home in their conference opener back on dec. 19. The Triton ladies are 8-4 on the season and won 42-35 at South Central in their last game back on Dec. 20.
The Warsaw vs. Triton boys and girls junior varsity games will be played on Jan. 5.
Warsaw will then host LaPorte on Saturday night for a variety double dip. The girls varsity game will begin at 6 p.m. in the Tiger Den with the boys contest to follow.
The LaPorte boys team sits at 2-4 on the season. The LaPorte girls team, which was ranked No. 12 in Class 4-A, is 11-1. Their lone loss was an 80-77 setback at NorthWood in triple overtime on Dec. 6. LaPorte has won six in a row since then and plays at South Bend Washington (13-1) on Friday night.
The Warsaw-LaPorte boys junior varsity game will be played starting at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Career Center gym at WCHS. The girls JV game will follow the boys contest.
