Milford Library Events This Week

Milford library news and events this week:
New Circulation Policy
On Monday, Dec. 15 the Milford Public Library board approved an addition to the circulation policy. The newly adopted policy reads, “All new library patrons are limited to two DVDs and two other items for a total of 4 items on their card at one time for 30 days from their date of registration.”
Outstanding fines have become an issue, with the library being owed thousands of dollars in unpaid fines and fees. This has been an ongoing problem the staff has dealt with by sending notices, making phone calls and encouraging patrons to pay fines as they are accrued.
The Board also adopted this new policy regarding outstanding fines and fees. “Fines are to be paid in the year they are accrued. Patrons are not meant to carry a fine balance forward form year to year, even it is less than $10. Patrons will be asked to pay their fines before the last work day of the calendar year. Patrons who do not pay their fines, will be blocked until the fine is paid.”
If you are unable to pay your fine because it exceeds $50, we can work with you on a payment plan. If you have any questions give us a call at (574) 648-4312.
New Years Resolutions
Every year many people make resolutions for the New Year. Some of the most common resolutions are: losing weight, exercising more, getting a new job, eating healthier, stop smoking, improve finances, give up sweets, and working less to spend more time with family.
It can be hard to keep resolutions very far into the new year, but with a little support, it can happen. The library has many books, DVDs, and magazines to help you keep your New Year resolution.
Look in our extensive selection of cookbooks to discover tasty ways to eat healthier this year and check out the variety of cooking magazines, such as “Woman’s World”, “Simple and Delicious” and “Diabetic Living.”
We have a great selection of workout books and several exercise DVDs you can check out. Come in and look for books to help you keep that New Year’s resolution.
Friends of the Library
Do you have lots of books or magazines laying around the house, gathering dust? Why not donate them to the library for others to buy and read! The Friends of the Library welcomes all your donations of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and sheet music.
Feel free to go through our collection and purchase a few things as well. Each book/cd costs 50 cents. All proceeds go back to the library.
The Friends will not be meeting during the months of January and February. Their next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 in the library meeting room. The friends are also selling cloth book bags for $12. Come in and purchase a bag at the circulation desk upstairs and support your local library.
Tax Exempt Donation
Those of you looking to make tax exempt donations before filing your taxes, please consider making a donation to the Milford Public Library Endowment Fund.
The Fund was established to someday generate an extra source of income for the library’s operating fund. Our hope is that the library will be around for many years to come, providing needed and appreciated services to the Milford community. Making a donation to the Endowment will support the library in years to come.
If you would like more information, call (574) 658-4312 and ask for Julie.
Closed for New Years
The library will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1 for the holiday. We will reopen at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Plan to check out lots of books and DVDs to enjoy over the new year. If you need to return any books, we have drop boxes at the south door entrance for your use.
Adult Reading Program
Running through the end of March, anyone aged 18 and up is encouraged to join the adult reading program. The program starts Friday, Jan. 2. The theme this year is ‘Escape the Ordinary’ and sign up sheets will be available at the adult circulation desk starting Friday, Jan. 2.
Last year, 73 adults participated in the winter fun and our goal this year is to have at least 100 people participate in the new year.
