LCA Takes One At Bethany Invite
WATERFORD MILLS – Lakeland Christian Academy can say they at least came away with something at the Bethany Christian boys and girls basketball tournament Saturday. The LCA girls split its two games, beating South Bend Trinity in the nightcap of the all-day tournament 59-31. LCA lost to Bethany in the morning girls game and the LCA boys lost its two games against Trinity and Bethany.
LCA’s girls win had Rachel Sand post her first double-double of the season, scoring 22 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Sand added four assists and garnered All-Tourney Team honors for her efforts. Hannah Delp also had a big game, scoring 23 points and adding five assists and three rebounds.
LCA lost the morning game to Bethany 52-36. Sand led LCA with 18 points and seven boards, but the Lady Bruins held Delp to seven points and no other Lady Cougar with more than four points.
The LCA boys lost to Bethany 67-32 and Trinity 70-34.
Bethany had 10 players make the scoresheet in the LCA win, led by 13 points from Ethan Miller and 12 points from Cristian Romero. LCA, which committed 25 turnovers in the game, had just one scorer in double-figures in Carter Twombly with 11 points.
Trinity forced LCA into 26 giveaways and kept LCA’s shooters in check throughout. Conner Blum led the Cougars with seven points while Kyle Shuler and Twombly both netted six points.
LCA’s boys fall to 0-7 on the season and will next see action in the Lakeland Christian Classic Jan 2-3. LCA will host Clinton Christian, South Bent Trinity and Covenant Christian (DeMotte) in round robin games.
LCA’s girls improve to 3-7 and will also host the Lakeland Christian Classic Jan. 2-3. The Lady Cougars will play Granger Christian, South Bend Trinity and Covenant Christian (DeMotte) in round robin games.
