Mason Hits Milestone For Trojans
BOURBON – It was only fitting that Triton’s Kylie Mason joined a very exclusive club Wednesday night with a 3-pointer.
The Trojan senior standout became just the fifth girls player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Mason entered play versus Rochester Wednesday night with 993 career points. She netted 12 in the contest to give her 1,005, including a trey for her 1,000th point.
Undefeated Rochester used a big second half to top the host Trojans by a 51-40 final.
The Zebras, ranked No. 8 in Class 3-A, improve to 11-0 on the season. Triton, ranked No. 6 in Class 1-A, falls to 7-4.
Triton, which had beaten Rochester the last two years including 50-49 last season, led 17-14 after the opening period and 25-23 at halftime. Rochester went ahead 36-34 after the third period and then outscored the Trojans 15-6 in the final quarter to pull away to the win.
Mason led the Triton offense with 12 points. Becca Kennedy had nine points and six rebounds for the hosts. Jaela Meiser had eight points and Krystal Sellers seven for coach Adam Heckaman’s team.
Mason joins former Triton stars Ashli Senff, Lorea Feldman, Julie Lozier and Justina Faulkner in the 1,000 point club.
Triton, which had won four of its last five games prior to Wednesday night, shot just 5-17 from the field in the second half.
Coach Tony Stesiak’s Zebras went 6-14 in the final half. Rochester also hit 8-20 from 3-point range in the win.
Alexa Holland led Rochester with 18 points. Ali Lakin had 12 for the winners. Lakin hit four treys and Holland added three.
Triton plays at South Central Saturday night. Rochester plays at North Miami Saturday afternoon.
