Goshen’s Huerta, Mounsithiraj Honored
GOSHEN – The accolades keep rolling in for the state champion Goshen boys soccer team.
Forward Isaac Huerta was tabbed with one of the top honors, being named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America Team. Huerta led Goshen to its first boys soccer state championship and was named the Mental Attitude Award winner following the state championship. Huerta scored 26 goals and helped on six others as Goshen piled up a 20-2-1 record, the finest mark in school history.
Huerta was earlier named the Player of the Year in the state of Indiana as well as several local and regional honors.
Overall, 20 forwards, 29 midfielders, seven defenders and one goalkeeper from across the country were named to the NSCAA All-America Team. The only other male from Indiana named to the team was Guerin Catholic defender Andrew Kaskie, who helped Guerin to the Class-A state title.
The Players of the Year both hailed from the same school for the first time ever. McDonogh School’s (Md.) Connor Smith, a midfielder, and Bridgette Andrzejewski, a forward, were named with the ultimate honors.
Goshen head coach Viratham Mounsithiraj was also named for a postseason award, being tabbed at the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for guiding his club to the state championship.
