Fort Wayne Man Sentenced 70 Years for Bludgeoning Death
Zachary D. Reinders, 23, of Fort Wayne was sentenced to 70 years in prison Dec. 15 for the bludgeoning death of a 78 year old woman earlier this year. He pleaded guilty to charges of felony murder and robbery causing serious bodily injury in November, admitting that he used a fireplace poker to beat the woman to death.
Diane Woods’ body was discovered by family members on Aug. 8 after a daily telephone call went unanswered. Reinders had also stolen her wallet, a television and cigarettes before fleeing. The two lived in the same trailer park on the city’s northwest side.
Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck accepted Reinders’ guilty plea, sentencing him to 60 years for the murder charge and an additional 10 years for the robbery charge to be served consecutively.
