North Webster Community Public Library events this week:
Come celebrate the joys of the season at the North Webster Community Public Library’s Joyous Christmas Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, held in the North Webster Community Center’s Banquet Hall. The public is invited to a free evening filled with mirthful entertainment, food, prizes and more.
Headlining the event is Main on Main Improv Troupe performing comedy improv with lots of audience interaction. Based out of Syracuse, the troupe is composed of Ian Crighton, Steven Leininger, Todd Lucas, Taylor White and Dustin Wolfe. The library staff will show off their talents with a Readers Theater followed by a rousing sing-along with piano accompaniment by Ann Lohman.
The Cake Lady, aka Peggy Roulo, known for her delicious cakes and cookies, will provide the refreshments. The evening concludes with lots of chances to win door prizes. This free holiday evening is the library’s way of thanking our patrons for their loyalty and friendship throughout the year and wishing them a joyous Christmas.
The library will close early at 6 p.m. to enable our entire staff to attend.
At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, the teens will have their own Christmas celebration during teen time by making Christmas mug cakes and decorating ornaments with washi tape. Youth in grades six through twelve are invited to bring their own mugs to make their cakes in. The washi tape will be provided.
The holidays are a time for keeping secrets, so Writer’s Corner will be sharing their essays about a secret at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15. If you like to write and want to join in, start pounding the keyboard and bring your essay to share. We don’t critique grammar or spelling. We just encourage each other in expressing ourselves through writing.
At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, R.E.A.D. Book Club will meet to discuss “Room” by Emma Donogue. Joining a book club is a great way to discover quality literature, and we select a variety of books to appeal to many different tastes.
Due to the holidays, Revolving Recipe Round-Up will meet a week early at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.16. Everyone is invited to bring a traditional winter dish to share along with the recipe. The library supplies the table service and free coffee and bottled water. It’s always a pleasurable time of sampling good food, discovering new recipes and enjoying friendly company.
Note that the library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, Thursday, Dec. 25, Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1 for the holidays. The library will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 27 for the Evergreen system upgrade. You can continue to renew and hold materials, pay fines, and access databases on our website at www.nweb.lib.in.us.
