I’m a student at Warsaw High School and I spend a lot of time on social media. Recently, I noticed a page called “KC Gov’t Watch” on Facebook. On that page there were numerous posts about a new neighborhood housing ordinance that the Warsaw City Council is trying to push through.
I’m no expert in politics but looking at the ordinance raised a lot of questions for me. The first thing is it seems like a huge infringement of people’s rights. All homeowners must have homes free of chipping paint; have locking windows, and rooms of a certain size just to mention a few things. You should read the draft. You can email [email protected] to get a copy.
Who will pay the fines and pay for the repair work if they find something wrong with a house? I would think most people who have issues with their house, already are short on funds to fix it or they would have done so prior.
Does this mean people who can’t pay for house repairs will then have to pay a fine too? Will this ordinance give legal rights to the local government officials to enter our house just because they think they should and can without a warrant?
Isn’t there something in the U.S. Constitution about entering a home without a warrant? I have many more questions, but it seems apparent to me that this ordinance raises more questions than answers.
