In order to adapt physical areas to changing needs, Syracuse Public Library is receiving interior cosmetic upgrades. The library is located at 115 E. Main St.
DJ Construction’s Service Group is overseeing the project. The Service Group, as the name implies, serves clients on projects smaller in scope or size than those typically considered major projects.
Syracuse Public Library Children’s Librarian and Interim Director Gisela Vore emphasized the goal of creating zones for both quiet and collaborative work, along with better seating and access to technology throughout the library.
“Teens and young adults will see major improvements to their gathering place, too,” said Vore. “Among the highlights of the new teen space will be comfortable furniture for collaboration and group projects.”
Nautical theming will be utilized throughout the library, with the lower level children’s department receiving special splashes of color that DJ Construction will implement.
“The new vibrant look and feel of the area will encourage interactive learning and engage readers,” said Vore.
“Older children will benefit from more comfortable, collaborative study areas and technology work spaces,” she said.
The library will receive fresh paint, new floor coverings, restroom upgrades, and new cabinets in the break room and other areas.
According to DJ’s Service Group Manager Robb Huber, the overall project includes the construction of a new circulation desks both on the main level and in the children’s area. “The remodeled circulation areas will drastically improve the traffic flow,” said Huber.
According to Mike Miller, manager of Business Development at DJ, several years ago the Syracuse Library commissioned an architectural group to assess the library’s space and create a plan to improve the areas.
“Taking the information from the architect, the team from the library prioritized their needs based on their budget and contacted DJ to turn their dreams into a reality. These improvements will create an attractive library where people will want not only to visit, but to stay awhile,” said Miller.
