Huntington North Hangs On
HUNTINGTON – Brianna Cumberland put up a huge scoring night, but it wasn’t enough for Whitko to escape Huntington North with a win Friday night.
Cumberland scored a career-high 32 points, but Whitko’s fourth quarter rally fell short in a 71-61 loss to Huntington in girls basketball.
Cumberland scored 15 points in the fourth quarter alone where Whitko trailed by just eight, 47-39, heading into the final quarter. Aly Reiff chipped in 17 points for the Lady Wildcats, which fall to 2-2 on the season.
Huntington North (1-2) were paced with a balanced scoring attack, led by the 22 points from Madi Canady. The talented guard scored 14 of her points in the second half. Elle Lawson hit five three’s among her 17 points and Rachel Anderson added 10 points in the win.
North were aided by hitting nine of 12 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
Whitko will host Warsaw next Friday.
