Inmate Died From Asphyxiation
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office released the cause of death for arrestee Kevin J. Minnix who died Tuesday while incarcerated in that county’s jail. (See related)
The autopsy reveals asphyxiation as the cause of death.
According to Mark E. Hodges, sheriff, at approximately 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Minnix was found unresponsive and sitting on the floor of a temporary holding cell. Confinement staff found Minnix with the string of his hooded sweat shirt tied around his neck and tied to a door hinge.
CPR and AED efforts to revive Minnix by confinement staff and medics continued for approximately 40 minutes but were unsuccessful.
