Buss Already Exceeding Expectations
BLOOMINGTON – Indiana’s Tyra Buss was highly recruited out of high school and helped bring the women’s program in Bloomington some much needed attention. Buss, who scored 4,897 total points and averaged 38 points per game in her career at Mt. Carmel High School (Mt. Carmel, IL), has already garnered a Player of the Week accolade from the Big Ten.
Buss was named Freshman of the Week by the conference for her performance in the Hoosiers win over Gardner-Webb last week.
Indiana crushed Gardner-Webb 155-54 in a game that saw many records fall for the program. Buss led all players with 18 points while shooting 57-percent from the field. The highly-touted freshman also added seven steals, five assists, four rebounds and one block.
Buss is the first Indiana freshman to earn Freshman of the Week honors since Larryn Brooks did it in January of the 2013-14 season.
