Westview Lights Out Against Wawasee
TOPEKA – A power outage wasn’t enough to keep Westview from lighting up the hoop.
The lights went out at Westview High School Friday night, forcing the game to be moved to Meadow View Elementary. Despite the change in scenery, Westview powered through for a 58-45 victory in girls hoops.
Westview (1-0) only had five players make the score sheet, but 24 points from Maria McCoy, 17 points from Grace Hales and 13 points from Sydney Burkett were more than enough. Westview also went 13-18 from the free throw line in the game, including nine makes in the fourth quarter.
Wawasee (0-2) had a career-high 13 points from Hannah Haines as well as 13 points from Kylee Rostochak.
Westview held just a 24-16 lead at the break, but scored 19 points in the third quarter to spread out the lead.
The Westview junior varsity squad defeated Wawasee 37-22.
Wawasee will visit Lakeland Tuesday night.
