City moved its win streak in the series to six games by riding the 13 points from Elise Cormany. City only scored six points in the first quarter and 15 points in the first half, but held Whitko to just 14 points in the first half and clamped down defensively.
Whitko’s Aly Reiff had 16 points and Maddie Gawthrop tossed in 11 points, but the remainder of the roster managed just three field goals combined. City held Brianna Cumberland, who led Whitko with 18 points in its win Tuesday against Central Noble, to just one three-pointer for only three points overall.
Whitko were only 1-2 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, whereas City was 6-11 in the final period.
Whitko (1-1) will get back at it Saturday in hosting Churubusco. Columbia City (2-0) will visit Fort Wayne Snider Tuesday night.
