Lake Papakeechie Sustainability Initiative
The Lake Papakeechie Sustainability Initiative will sponsor a seminar by Professor Nate Bosch, director of the Center for Lakes and Streams at Grace College, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Syracuse Community Center.
Interested persons are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Bosh will discuss some foundational lake management concepts, including how lakes work, how lake nutrients play a role in lake health, and how lakes change over time. Bosh will also address questions posed by lake residents on what they can do to help ensure a healthy lake. These questions may include how to increase fish populations, create environmentally healthy lawns, deal with man-made lake debris, and counter the effects of faulty septic systems.
The pros and cons of chemical treatments to control lake weeds is also a potential topic of discussion. The informal presentation format of the seminar will encourage questions from the audience.
LaPSI is an environmental sub-group of the Papakeechie Protective Association.
