Syracuse Public Library
The Syracuse Public Library is celebrating the most exuberant holiday of the year, where children and some adults dress up and get candy. The library has a tent full of curiosities and confounding displays for the wonderment of all.
Trick-or-treaters that come to the library can see such things as a cage of baby rattlers, the world’s oldest librarian, marvelous experiments and maybe even an appearance by Waldo impersonator, Austin.
Especially for Children
Book Buddies are bringing a program about safety to the library at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27. Children between the ages of 18 months and five years have an opportunity to enjoy activities that are not just routine.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, Esther DeJulia will show how pink pigs eat pumpkins – or how pumpkins eat pinky pigs. It all comes together with the letter P.
Both morning programs are open for drop-in attendees.
One Book One Hour
The One Book One Hour adult book club is reading the first book in a mystery series created by Jaqueline Winspear. The reader of the book is introduced to Maisie Dobbs, an English nurse during WWI. She later becomes a private investigator and is hired to solve many mysteries.
Winspear has created a charming character in Maisie and since the premier novel has written nine installments to the story. The Maisie Dobbs stories have been on various best-seller lists.
The group meets for discussion at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. Copies are available through Evergreen or the Syracuse Library.
Dear Readers
Dear Reader You Might Already Be A Winner reading program ends soon. Each reader receives a winning envelope to claim a prize. Four winners win $20 to give to a nonprofit of their choosing. The last day for this program is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
We Will Survive
Surviving the night at the Syracuse Public Library are the teens that came to practice survival skills Friday, Oct. 17. The group learned that the skills and tools needed to survive a zombie apocalypse are similar to what is required for many other emergencies. The group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
