Goshen Looking To Remain Pitch Perfect
GOSHEN – History has been made at Goshen High School, and the pages in the record books could keep turning this weekend.
The Goshen boys and girls soccer teams both advanced to the Class 2-A semi-states after thrilling wins last weekend in regional play. The boys team won via a shootout against South Bend St. Joseph’s to win the regional and move to the Warsaw Boys Soccer Semi-state this Saturday. The girls team, after winning its first-ever regional game against Warsaw in the semi-finals, knocked off Penn, 2-1, to move to its first-ever semi-state at South Bend St. Joseph’s.
The boys team is playing in just its second semi-state. The 2007 Goshen team made the final four before losing to eventual state champion Evansville Memorial in the semi-finals. The 2014 Redskins 17-2-1) will face No. 1-ranked Chesterton (19-0) in the first game at Warsaw starting at 10 a.m., followed by No. 20 Lafayette Harrison (19-1-2) and Homestead (13-5-2). The winners return for the championship.
Goshen’s No. 18-ranked girls team (18-1-1) will meet No. 12 Fort Wayne Carroll (18-2-1) in the St. Joe 10 a.m. game, followed by Lake Central (11-3-1) against No. 6 Fishers (13-1-6), with the two winners playing Saturday night.
At LaVille, the northern Class 1-A boys semi-state will have No. 11 Argos (17-3-1) meeting 19-0 Hebron opposite No. 1 Guerin Catholic (19-2) and No. 8 Fort Wayne Blackhawk (10-7-4). The Class 1-A girls semi-state at Argos will have No. 12 Westview (16-5) meeting No. 14 West Lafayette (11-7) after No. 5 Fort Wayne Canterbury (11-6-1) plays No. 6 Wheeler (17-1-2).
The IHSAA soccer state finals will take place Nov. 1 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI. The Class 1-A boys begin at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with the Class 2-A girls at 6 p.m.
