Democrats For Life
Dear Editor,
Recently I learned from a front-page Times Union article there is a Democrats for Life. However, you might be surprised to learn that Democrats for Life core values, and what they consider pro-life, may not be very similar to other traditional, pro-life groups.
Democrats for Life “Who We Are” statement includes: “We recognize that people of good faith have different approaches to these issues; therefore, we refuse to use a single issue as a “litmus test” to exclude those who would otherwise seek common ground with us on the expansion of human rights.”
Democrats for Life, based on their owns words, is willing to throw the unborn under the bus in order to include as many people as possible in their efforts to expand human rights.
That’s right. You don’t have to actually be pro-life to be a Democrat for Life.
Democrats for Life say the group is pro-life, yet also state, “we believe in the core values and principals of the Democratic Party.”
The Democrat Party continues to support, through legislation and our tax dollars, the largest abortion provider in the United States, Planned Parenthood. The Democrat Party also continues to support legislation that forces all Americans to pay for abortion.
Indiana Right to Life, which also endorses political candidates through its PAC, is not connected to any party.
Its goals, which can be found at www.irtl.org, state, “Indiana Right to Life is dedicated to restoring and protecting the Sanctity of Life. We seek to educate the public on issues of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia and to move our culture back to a respect for life.”
Indiana Right to Life has endorsed Republican Curt Nisly in the District 22 race. Democrats for Life has endorsed Democrat David Kolbe. Not all endorsements are created equal.
