Tigers, Warriors Draw Home Games
The good news for the Warsaw football team is that it will get to open postseason play at home.
The other part of that equation is not quite so good.
The Tigers will entertain undefeated and No. 4 ranked Carroll in a Class 6-A sectional opener Oct. 24.
The IHSAA conducted pairings for the football state tournament series tonight in Indianapolis.
Warsaw saw its season end a year ago with a 42-7 loss to Carroll in the sectional championship game.
The Tigers sit at 4-4 on the season after losing 42-28 at NorthWood Friday night. The Chargers are 8-0.
Carroll has not missed a beat this fall despite the graduation of star Drue Tranquill, now a freshman at Notre Dame. His younger brother Justin is out for his senior season after suffering an offseason knee injury.
Warsaw and Carroll have played three common opponents this season. Warsaw defeated Goshen 24-0 and East Noble 25-24 and lost at Columbia City 33-21 in week one. Carroll beat Goshen 40-7, East Noble 20-14 and Columbia City 41-35 in overtime.
The winner of the Warsaw-Carroll game faces the winner of the Homestead-Fort Wayne Northrop contest in the sectional final.
Wawasee will also meet a familiar postseason foe in Class 4-A sectional play. The Warriors will host Leo on Oct. 24. Leo topped Wawasee 35-7 in a first-round tourney game in 2013.
The Warriors sit at 5-3 on the season and winners of three of their last four games. Leo is 6-2 and riding a four-game winning streak currently.
The winner of the Wawasee-Leo game advances to play the winner of the NorthWood at Angola game in a sectional semifinal matchup.
The Class 3-A bracket finds Tippecanoe Valley (1-7) playing at Culver Academy (3-5). The Vikings lost 36-13 to the Eagles back in week one.
The Valley-CMA winner will earn a spot versus either Maconaquah or Peru in the sectional semifinals.
Whitko will travel to Bellmont for its Class 3-A sectional opener. The Wildcats, who have won five of their last six games, are 5-3. Bellmont is 4-4.
The Whitko-Bellmont victor advances to play either Garrett or Lakeland in the sectional semifinals.
Triton will travel to South Central in a Class 1-A contest. The Trojans are 2-6 after a 35-15 home win over Knox Friday night. The Satellites are 3-5.
The Triton-South Central winner moves on to play the winner of the Lake Station-LaVille game.
