Man Arrested For Retaliation Assault
Joshua Warren Powers, 28, 12600 SR 13, North Manchester, was arrested Friday on a charge of battery, causing serious bodily injury, level 5 felony. He as held on a $4,000 surety bond.
Events occurred on Sept. 3, according to the affidavit of probable cause, where one fight led to another person being seriously injured.
The victim suffered a broken jaw and underwent surgery at DuPont Hospital, Fort Wayne, to repair the lower jaw, broken in two places. He also suffered an abrasion on the right shoulder, and injury to the left eye.
A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officer responded to the call on Sept. 3.
Initially police spoke to a victim of an initial fight that lead to another assault.
The initial victim, who suffered a cut on the left side of his face, abrasion on his right knee and abrasions on his knuckles, stated he was walking through Meadow Acres Mobile Home Park when he entered into an argument with another individual. That argument evolved into a physical fight.
That individual went back to his residence and told Powers what had occurred. Powers and the individual then went to the residence of the assailant. A confrontation occurred.
Powers told police when he and his friend went to the mobile home of the initial assailant, he was approached by two other individuals who pushed him. Powers struck one of the individuals in the face.
Police spoke with the person involved in the initial altercation who said he and the other individual had entered into a physical altercation. After the two separated, the other individual came back with Powers. Police were told Powers was yelling and screaming at him and his wife and when Powers came toward his wife, his stepson got between Powers and his wife. It was then Powers struck his stepson in the face with no warning.
The investigating officer observed abrasions on the right shoulder, right side of the face and injury to the left eye of the stepson. The victim sustained a broken jaw. He was transported to DuPont Hospital, Fort Wayne, for surgery to repair his lower jaw, broken in two places.
