Milford Public Library happenings include:
The Monsters are coming!
The Monsters are coming to the library! Oct. 31 is our Light’s Out at the Library Program. This years theme is “Reading is Monsterous Fun.” Get in your costume, come to the library, and see some of our favorite monster stories come to life.
Our monsters are silly monsters, not scary. “Where the Wild Things Are,” by Maurice “Sendak and There’s a Nightmare” in my Closet, by Mercer Mayer will leave you laughing, not screaming! “Light’s Out” is fun for all ages and kids in costumes leave the library with a treat. We are seeking donations of regular size candy bars to hand out to the children at the end of the program. If you would like to donate, drop off your donation at the adult circulation desk.
While out Trick-or-Treating, be sure to plan on stopping at the library.
Wee-wu! Wee-wu! Wee-wu! Here comes the fire truck! Oct. 5-11 is Fire Prevention Week and this week at story time we are going to learn about firefighters and fire safety.
Join Miss Malea Johnson at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 or 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, as she reads stories including “The Little Fire Engine” by Lois Lenski and “Daisy the Firecow” by Viki Woodworth.
Meet a local volunteer fireman and enjoy making a fireman craft. How do you make a delicious fire hydrant snack from Oreos and marshmallows?! Be sure to join us for Story Time to find out!
It’s not too late to register your 3-6 year old child to participate. Call (574) 658-4312 or visit the children’s department to register. See you on Wednesday or Thursday!
Quack, quack, quack! The theme for fall Lapsit is “Ducks!” Join us every Tuesday in October for Lapsit. Miss Malea will read “10 Little Rubber Ducks” by Eric Carle, “Duck Sock Hop” by Jane Kohuth, and “Duckie’s Ducklings” by Frances Barry. Get ready to sing songs and learn finger plays about Ducks!
Come at 10:45 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 for songs, finger plays and stories that will capture your infant’s attention. Call the library to register your infant to 36 month old child today.
It’s here! LEGO Crew has become a part of Milford Public Library! Come from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct, 11 and create with LEGO building blocks! Join this activity in the meeting room. We provide the LEGOs, you provide your creativity and imagination. Call us if you have any questions at (574) 685-4312. Spread the word and bring your friends!
After School is Cool
Can you smell the popcorn popping? Come and join us at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 for After School is Cool Movie Day with Miss Heather. In this release of a 1959 classic, we find that a beautiful young princess has been placed under a magic spell by an evil witch. Upon falling under an enchanted sleep that only the kiss of a true love can dispel, the movie promises to capture your imagination and your heart.
Bring a friend and get ready to watch a great movie that has attracted audiences for many years!
To Be or Not To Be Gluten Free
Monday, September 22 six people attended the nutrition program presented by Purdue Extension Educator Stephanie Faroh. Everyone at the program learned all about eating gluten free and why someone would need to limit gluten from their diet.
Maria Tienda, Bobi Doll and Sarita Hernandez won gluten free recipe books as door prizes.
Our next nutrition program is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and will be “Healthy Holiday Eating.” Mark your calendars now. Registration for that program will be available Monday, Nov. 10.
